Oh! What a Lovely War!

9th May 2018 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 and we commemorate this event with a special showing of the film version of the stage Musical made famous by Joan Littlewood and the film was directed by Richard Attenborough and features a cast of some of the most famous actors of the time.

The film focuses mainly on the members of the Smith family who change their initially sunny views on World War I after the three boys of the family witness the harsh reality of trench warfare. Much of the action in the movie revolves around the words of the marching songs of the soldiers, and many scenes portray some of the more famous (and infamous) incidents of the war, including the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand, the Christmas meeting between British and German soldiers in no-man’s-land.

The play and film criticised the manner in which the eventual victory was won and made many people who saw it question their personal opinion on War.
