Saturday 27th of October will see the little ghouls, ghosts and monsters of Penge gather on and around our High Street once again. Last year nearly 500 children, accompanied by their parents and carers wandered the length of the High Street gathering treats from the lovely businesses who took part so we look forward to another busy day.

The event starts at 4pm and finishes at 5:30 and the route is as per map below. You can start and finish anywhere but we will have extra maps at the three pubs listed (the Alexandra, the Bridge House and the Goldsmiths) so if you can’t use a phone image on the day or print one off, you can collect a map from these venues.

The event is free, all we ask is that the children dress up. We are very grateful to the Penge Traders Association, who assist in the event and of course the 26 community minded shops, cafes, takeaways and pubs taking part. They all do this because they thoroughly enjoy the day.

Have a great time but stay safe, it’ll be busy and the children will be excited.

London Borough of Bromley has successfully secured £100,000 of funding from the GLA to improve the appearance of shopfronts on Penge High Street. To take this forward the council has appointed You&Me Architecture as a partner to deliver the programme of improvements.

There is currently enough funding to deliver works to around 12 shop units as part of the project. A strategy has been developed to select potential units for improvement which will create the highest beneficial impact for the High Street.

LB Bromley are seeking applications from businesses wishing to take part in the project and benefit from the proposed works (permission of both the business leaseholder and freeholder will be required). The majority of of the costs associated to the works and related fees are to be covered by Bromley Council, although a minimum 10% of the cost will be sought from the shop owner/proprietor as matchfunding.

If you meet the requirements and wish to take part complete an Expression of Interest form by 30th May 2018.

Forms and more details from virgil.rappa@bromley.gov.uk

Those of a nervous disposition may wish to look away now…

In late September 2015, the PTB approached a couple of dozen shops on the High Street and Maple Road and asked them if they would like to partake in the inaugural Halloween Trail. Well, would they? We should say so, most were so keen they nearly ripped our arms off… That should have given us a clue as to the fondness within SE20 for things that go bump in the night…

So, by the big day, we had 23 traders and our lovely local bobbies available to supply the children of Penge with treats. We set the route, advertised the event online and wondered if many would turn up. Boy, did our little monsters not let us down. Starting at the Bridge House Tavern and progressing all the way to the Goldsmiths, the High Street was invaded by hordes of little ghouls, ghosts, witches, werewolves and vampires; not tens, not twenties but hundreds of them, accompanied by their parents and guardians, many of them equally terrifyingly clad.

We enjoyed every minute and hope you did too. Here’s to more spooky japes next year!

The winner of the Fancy Dress competition was little Cooper, the two year old ‘mummy’.

Below are pictures of just a few of the many children, parents and traders who made the day such fun:

However it needs improvements to its sound and lighting equipment and marketing capabilities, and that’s where we can help with small individual donations to ensure it keeps going, growing and continuing to be the envy of many of our more upmarket neighbours.
